Gamesalad: How to build your own Angry Birds style game

This two part tutorial I did for gamedevtuts+ will teach you how to build your own Angry Birds style game from scratch using Gamesalad. Each of the two screencasts lasts about 45 minutes, they will take you step by step through the development process. The source files are provided as well so you can use the same graphics and refer to the finished project to compare it to your own.

Part 1: Angry Snowman: Build an “Angry Birds” Game From Scratch – Setup and Shooting

Part 2: Angry Snowman: Build an “Angry Birds” Game From Scratch – Destroying the Scenery

This is the finished game you will have completed at the end of the screencasts:

Use the up and down arrow keys to change the angle of the gun and hold the space bar to increase your shot power.

    • Hi Niall, You’ll have to follow the links above to the actual video tutorial that is located on the gamedev.tutsplus network. I produced the video tutorials for them so I can’t host the files at my site, they have the rights to them.

Follow the two links in the story above and the source files are linked there.

    • Hi Mike, to get to the Scene Attributes you need to unlock an actor on the stage, after that the Scene Attributes will show up in that actors Attributes Browser.

I just finished build the Angry Snowman. Everything works great. Except for when it zooms back to the snowman (after you shoot a snow ball at fort) the camera stays zoomed out. I went through the video several times. Any help would be great.

    • Hi Manuel, the tutorial teaches you how to make an Angry Birds style game using Gamesalad. Once created you can publish it for any platform Gamesalad supports including Android and iOS, but I don’t cover publishing in the tutorial, just the creation of the game itself.
